Night has fallen, Light is dawning
This tiny child of Deity
Angels pressed around to view
The Author of all history

Hands too small for grasping tightly
Fashioned the vast universe
God beyond all space, eternal
In a mother’s arms to nurse

Space between divine and human
Bridged by baby, meek and small
Here within a manger crying
Lies the One who saves us all

What display of humble passion
Entering our humanity
Plunging in our pain and sadness
Bearing our depravity

Born for purpose clear and weighty
Thorns and nails would pierce him through
Peace by death and hope in abandonment
Through his blood our life is new

To the earth our God of mercy
Came down humbly so that we
Might in joyful worship offer
Praise throughout eternity
