We are hard pressed, we are stressed
Beyond what we can bear
We are reeling, we are feeling
Need for hope to fight despair
In the tension unrelenting
We cry out for you oh Lord
Will you hear, will you hear our cry?
Bring us to a spacious place
Of your hope and lavish grace
Assure us of our kingdom home
You’re the King above all others
And you’ve made us sons and daughters
Oh we will, oh we will not be afraid
We are hard pressed, we are stressed
Beyond what we can bear
We are reeling, we are feeling
Need for hope to fight despair
In the tension unrelenting
We cry out for you oh Lord
Will you hear, will you hear our cry?
Bring us to a spacious place
Of your hope and lavish grace
Assure us of our kingdom home
You’re the King above all others
And you’ve made us sons and daughters
Oh we will, oh we will not be afraid
After all, what can mere humans do?
It is in the Lord we take our refuge
And we know that in the end
With God our help that we will see
The Lord has the victory
Oh the Lord has the victory
We were hard pressed, we were stressed
Yes, beyond what we could bear
We were reeling, we were feeling
Need for hope to fight despair
In the tension unrelenting
We cried out for you oh Lord
And you heard, yes you heard our cry
You brought us to a spacious place
Of your hope and lavish grace
Assured us of our kingdom home
You’re the king above all others
Yet you’ve made us sons and daughters
Oh we will, oh we will not be afraid
Oh we will, oh we will not be afraid

Here I am Lord
Crying out to you again
Hear my voice Lord
I’m standing face to face with sin
If you kept a record of our wrongs
Who could abide?
But you grant forgiveness
So you are feared and lifted high
Our hope is in you
Because of your great mercy
Redemption complete
And every sin forgiven
Here I am Lord
Quiet waiting here for you
Hoping for your promises
Sure that what you say is true
If you kept a record of our wrongs
Who could abide?
But you grant forgiveness
So you are feared and lifted high
Our hope is in you
Because of your great mercy
Redemption complete
And every sin forgiven
Here I am Lord
Stilled and quiet in my soul
I’ve given my ambitions
Over to your wise control
I’ve given up my faith in my own ways and my own plans
I’m hoping only in the mercy given by your hand
Our hope is in you
Because of your great mercy
Redemption complete
And every sin forgiven
Our hope is in you
Because of your great mercy
Redemption complete
And every sin forgiven

The Lord’s my shepherd, I am not lacking
He will direct me to pastures green
He always leads me to quiet waters
Meets my every need
For his name’s sake he will guide me
Into paths of righteousness
And though danger may surround me
He will give me rest
In the presence of foes turned against me
He will care for me like a king
Grant me honor, show me his favor
Graciously give everything
So I follow him in goodness
Walk the path my Shepherd guides
Trust in his unfailing mercy
With him always reside

Whom in heaven have I but you?
And I want nothing on earth besides you
Whom in heaven have I but you?
Though my strength often fails
Your power prevails
You’re my joy and my portion for ever
You are always with me, holding me by my hand
You are guiding me now and will lead me to your land
I will tell of your works, proclaim all of your deeds
Refuge of the fearful soul, your love fills my need
Whom in heaven have I but you?
And I want nothing on earth besides you
Whom in heaven have I but you?
Though my strength often fails
Your power prevails
You’re my joy and my portion for ever
You’re a refuge for me and I choose to draw near
Though my eyes turn away, you remove all my fears
Justice shines in your eyes, righteousness in all your ways
I’m secure in your hands, keeper of my days
Whom in heaven have I but you?
And I want nothing on earth besides you
Whom in heaven have I but you?
Though my strength often fails
Your power prevails
You’re my joy and my portion for ever
Whom in heaven have I but you?
And I want nothing on earth besides you
Whom in heaven have I but you?
Though my strength often fails
Your power prevails
You’re my joy and my portion for ever
You’re my joy and my portion for ever

You are with me, I will not be afraid
You are with me, every moment, every day
No matter what people may do or what they say
You’re my helper and you are with me
I don’t know what might come knocking at my door
The hours pass I feel unsettled and unsure
But no matter what this day may hold in store
You’re a refuge, you’re my strength that will endure
You are with me, I will not be afraid
You are with me, every moment, every day
No matter what people may do or what they say
You’re my helper and you are with me
There are threats and there are dangers to my soul
There are fears and stressors trying to take a hold
In these lonely times the silence is anything but gold
And I need you to remind me once again that
You are with me, I will not be afraid
You are with me, every moment, every day
No matter what people may do or what they say
You’re my helper and you are with me
You’re my helper and you are with me

I wrote these songs over a number of years. They arose from meditations on various Psalms and my personal experience of clinging to the hope found in God as expressed in the words of these ancient songs.
"When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies." - Psalm 118:5-7
